Heffron was selected to construct the Hazardous Material Response Facility (HMRF) design-build project for the Christman Company and The Department of Defense. Over the course of design, Tom Sullivan and the Heffron Team worked with the Atlanta based engineering firm, Newcomb & Boyd, to size the HVAC equipment and meet the owners’ requirements. Heffron was an integral part of this LEED SILVER Building to meet the U.S. Green Building Council certifications. Low-flow toilets, high-efficiency air handlers, and a building management system were some of these key items to achieve this certification.
Heffron Company installed custom Ingenia Rooftop Air Handling Units with M98 filters bag in-bag out for the exhaust air system serving a BSL3 lab space. Heffron also installed a custom Daikin McQuay Rooftop Air Handler Unit serving the office areas within the HMRF.
Due to the proximity of the adjacent Ronald Reagan Nation Airport, Tom and the Heffron Team had to coordinate rigging of the equipment with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority as the crane could not exceed 110 vertical feet.
The HMRF is located on the Pentagon Reservation and will be home to members of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, a Department of Defense Agency charged with protecting the Pentagon Reservation and other defense facilities in the National Capital Region.
